Never a dull moment - Wednesday, August 29, 2007 10:35 am
Isis started kindergarten this week.  It's pretty surreal to have my first child in the school system.  Life has been super busy otherwise as well. Hanging out with people, trying to cut up music to post as an online album, watching movies, playing a LOT of guitar, and writing software of course.

I thought I would also share this with you:

How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb.
The answer is seven:

* One to deny that a light bulb needs to be replaced.

* One to attack and question the patriotism of anyone who has questions about the light bulb.

* One to blame the previous administration for the need of a new light bulb.

* One to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a secret stockpile of light bulbs.

* One to get together with Vice President Cheney and figure out how to overpay Halliburton one million dollars for each light bulb.

* One to arrange a photo-op session showing Bush changing the light bulb while dressed in a flight suit and wrapped in an American flag.

* And finally, one to explain to Bush the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country. [anon]

For the linux friendly crowd, a note on compiz fusion.  I switched to compiz fusion from beryl only to find my beloved edge scroll had been essentially axed.  It was there at the beginning.  This would be, the ability to move the mouse pointer to any edge of the screen, and scroll the mouse wheel, and change desktops.  Sure you can do that in compiz fusion if there is no window where you scroll, but I like my windows mostly maximized.  I don't want to have to aim when I go to scroll desktops.
Also, compiz fusion looks nice, but in terms of stability, it sucks my ass for my work desktop.    I'm not sure what it is, but my home computer and laptop both seem to work fine with it.  My work PC, when I enable compiz fusion it starts okay.  After about 30 minutes though, the machine slows to a crawl, where every possible click action makes the machine stick.   Eventually, the machine just halts, and stops responding.  The mouse still moves, but the UI does not respond at all to anything.   Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, Ctrl-Alt-F1 doesn't do anything. The power button sometimes does not work.   I have to hard power down, or if I wait another say, 30 to 60 minutes, it will just reboot itself.
And another thing dammit, the newest GIT version, they removed the "action" tab from every plugin??  Must be some kind of coding error.  I cannot set keyboard shortcuts anymore?  Not even mouse shortcuts?   Apparently I can set them in gconf-editor, but then if I try to restart compiz, the whole goddamn computer freezes again? WTF???  I run the same debian distro here as at home.  I run almost all the same exact software.  I cannot imagine it being something there.  I am almost convinced it has something to do with my work PC's dual proc nature.  My home machine is a single processor.
I have had it, I cannot do the compiz fusion anymore, so I decided to switch back to beryl, despite the fact the animation is not anywhere as smooth, it has fewer features, but dammit, it's stable.   Maybe compiz fusion 6.0?  Until then, viva la beryl!
